Jan. 25th, 2010

So thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday. A huge thank you to kasku and Tiff, who made excellent sugar-free and low-carb cakes that I could eat with (a degree of) impunity...

I forget what this demonstration was intended to prove,
but be assured that it proved it conclusively.

(For those who were confused by the Kate Nash/Kate Bush song midway through the evening, here are the people responsible—the track is “Kate Bash”.)

Grindingly inevitable swift karmic backlash after pleasant event: I have no heating or water until, probably, Friday. Which, okay, would normally be all very character-building (and somewhere my old housemaster is laughing), but have you seen the weather system heading in from the North Sea this week?

Oh fuck. Well done for your birthday &c, but are you actually, you know, going to survive the week?

It's what Norwegians are for.

Oh, of course I forgot. Well, anyway feel free to drop round for tots of brandy and some actual - you know - HEATING (via induction-cat).

Thank you, although my hectic social diary work will probably preclude this.

Oh dear. I'm sure it would raise a wry smile with Hammer. Do you need your fanheater back or have you picked up another unit??

Keep it! Your need is greater than mine. I can always throw on an extra layer; it's those times when extra layers aren't an option that I'm concerned about.

Is that really the earliest a plumber/engineer can come round to look at your boiler? Customer service FAIL.

Was the photo intended to demonstrate my grotesquely oversized head?

They usually do same day but the weather has meant excessive demand; they offered tomorrow but I can't at all. They said Wednesday but only during the part of the day that I can't do. If the weather looks really bad tomorrow then I'll see if I can't bump them into Wednesday after all and take a day's compassionate leave or something. Pain in the arse.

If you had a grotesquely oversized head then that could conceivably be what I was doing; as you don't, however, then either I'm demonstrating what your head would look like were it grotesquely oversized or I'm seeing how it would look mounted in a cabinet. Or maybe something else again. Who can honestly tell?

I don't suppose you had a piece of Lego wedged up your nose and I was trying to pat the top of your head with my right hand to make it fall out into my left?

Not that I recall, no. It's an interesting theory, however.

It looks like you are preparing to perform a magic trick using a volunteer from the audience. With a simple clap of your hands, his head will disappear entirely.

HB, btw.
