Idiom

How idioms change. It was perfectly clear in the room what Lord Dearing meant, but in print it looks needlessly confrontational.
Lord Dearing: As for the kids at school, we can get at them whether they like it or not. But the people who have left school, blow me, do not want any more of it.

I always enjoy it when I encounter "for the nonce" as well. My favourite is from a children's book, where an elderly Major asks a girl for the pleasure of mounting her.
