Baroness Noakes: All Labour Governments eventually run out of other people’s money. It is the destiny of the Conservative Government to come behind the messes that Labour Governments make of public finances. In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is the final doom of the gods. A series of disasters and battles leaves the earth laid bare, and most of the gods killed. That is what the past 13 years have been like—battles, destruction and disasters. We take comfort from the fact that the doom of this Government is now near at hand and we hope that it will be final. In the story of Ragnarök, after the final doom, the surviving gods bring renewal, hope and abundance. That is what our country deserves and, if we are allowed to form the next Government, we will strive mightily for it. [Hansard]

Someone's been thinking about the demise of the Labour government in waaaaaaaaaay too much detail.

Someone listens to way too much Wagner.

Of course Ragnarok isn't just the end of one party. It is the demise of Everything. Even their pensions.

Perhaps, though, if the Tories do come in under the leadership of Ant & Dec, it really could be Ragnarok.

And after Ragnarök, the earth is subsequently repopulated by the two surviving humans.

Basically, I'm not sure where she's going with this.

While this is many levels of beguiling, I am most drawn to the implication that the Conservatives' approach to other people's money is beyond reproach.
